Founder Pekka Ropa
The story of KymiFloor begins in the early 1980s on the banks of the Kymijoki River, where a young wood engineer and rock musician got a job at the Riihimäki parquet factory. The work quickly became a calling.
“I wanted to learn everything. I worked in production, installed floors for customers, and practically lived in the factory. It was a real parquet university.”
Kymifloor was born from the desire to combine decades of international expertise with the spirit of the home region. We manufacture high-quality parquet floors and wooden interiors that combine technical skill, a deep understanding of materials and pure aesthetics.

Starting your own business
From the world of parquet floors to the world
Over the years, parquet manufacturing transformed from a job into a lifestyle and a passion. In the late 1980s, the road led to France, where the company PR-BOIS began operations, supplying hardwood to the European parquet industry.
The company supplied hardwood to the European parquet industry and acted as part of the supply chain of large manufacturers.

Expertise was noticed
Success gave birth to new opportunities: Finnish expertise was taken to the position of factory manager at the world's largest parquet floor veneer production plant. Soon after, an engineering firm was founded that built parquet factories around the world – and often also produced its own, high-quality wood interior design: unique floors, walls and ceilings for demanding projects.
Over the years, the road took him to France, where he founded his own company, PR-BOIS. Parquet manufacturing had transformed from a job into a life's work.
"I often stayed in the factories we built as a raw material supplier and distributor of the finished product. We also started having our own products made from our own wood at the factories, the product development of which eventually led to individual products and entities (sawing, 3D surfaces and patterns), because there was a lot of demand for them."

Named after the region of origin
After a long international career, the dream of having our own factory in Finland came true. Strömfors Ruukki, a historic industrial milieu along the Kymijoki River, now provides a home for a unique production of parquet floors and wood interior design.
“I wanted to return to my roots. Kymijoki is dear to me, and that’s why the brand name comes from it. I want to create work for my home region – and make floors that last and tell a story.”
Kymifloor is much more than just parquet.
It is a combination of deep knowledge of wood, technical expertise and a passion for aesthetic, sustainable wood interior design. Each product is individually designed – through sawing, 3D surfaces and patterns, entities are created that are not only beautiful, but also meaningful.
Parquet floors are now created at the Strömfors ironworks. Kymifloor is a tribute to wood – and an invitation to you who appreciate unique quality.
